Romany Society Events
The Society organises a series of events each year, with a residential weekend in the autumn, visiting sites associated with Romany’s life, or used by Romany in his books and broadcasts.
Until 2013 we also had open events at Romany’s Vardo, which stood in his memorial garden in Wilmslow.
The vardo has now been moved elsewhere (see the full story on the Vardo Appeal page) and so these open days have ceased.

The Wilmslow Show and Fun Day: Sunday 8 July 10-4 pm:
There will be a Romany Society stand.
Romany Society Members’ Weekend: Friday 5 and Saturday 6 October:
This is to be a little different. as it is 75 years since Romany’s death. Along with the people of Wilmslow we can celebrate his life by an exhibition of his artefacts. viewing some film. listening to recordings and specially having an edited enactment of a ‘never broadcast’ programme of Out with Romany’ that he wrote just before his death.
There will also be the chance to make relevant visits, including one to an animal sanctuary . As this is probably one of the last major events of the Romany Society it is a good opportunity for old friends and members to get together. Events will involve minimal walking and there will be transport if necessary.
Special guests should be attending the Saturday night dinner and possibly David Barnaby’s new book on Romany will be launched, with copies signed by the author.
Chairman Derick Wood asks that people should book places early so that you can all he accommodated. Just let him know you are interested and all details will follow: 0161 973 0784.
